All Involved

The new novel from Ryan Gattis

The story behind the book

All Involved is a novel of historical fiction set during the 6 days of the 1992 L.A. Riots. It tells of this chaos with an unmatched level of scope, authenticity, and insight into the South Central city of Lynwood, as well as the overlapping worlds of firefighters, nurses, graffiti artists, and, most of all, members of Latino street gangs.

It is grounded in nearly 2.5 years of extensive research & background spent with former Latino gang members, granting me an unprecedented look into this hidden world within Los Angeles. (I talk more about the dangers & difficulties of my journey to winning the trust of one particularly powerful former gang member in my TED talk.)

All Involved is a time capsule about the human cost of the riots: the crimes of opportunity, hopes, and even loves of Angelenos during the most dangerous time in the city’s history.

Sample It: Day 1 is now available for free on Kindle, Nook, & Kobo.

The Big Drop: Homecoming (1)

After killing a yakuza in self-defense, an ex-military translator owes a debt that is payable only one way: take the dead man’s place searching for a missing woman in Little Tokyo, Los Angeles. Fusing gritty yakuza action with elements of classic noir in the city that started it all, the novella sends Johnny Ban in search of two distinct parts of his past: his long-buried Americanness, and his first love—a Japanese woman up to her neck in trouble.

Roo Kickkick & the Big Bad Blimp

This edgy novel follows the lives of the young residents of Barguss, a small town in western America, made famous because of an unfortunate accident involving a knife-wielding maniac and a runaway blimp. Roo Kickkick & the Big Bad Blimp is by turns wildly funny and warmly affectionate; it’s a story of Hollywood stars and punk bands, teenage crushes and beauty pageants, nobility lurking in unexpected places and the boredom, comedy and violence of small-town life.

In fact, the only good thing to happen to Georgia in ages is meeting a boy named Luke that she feels strangely drawn to. But Georgia will learn all these things are connected, because coincidences don’t exist when witch blood runs in your veins—a fact Georgia herself doesn’t even know—but she will, and soon.

Cursed by Kate St. Clair

A storm is gathering in Cody, Texas. It has been months since the vengeful witch cult Stola Mortem nearly killed Georgia Sayers and her four siblings, and a return to normal life has been impossible. Not even her budding relationship with Luke can keep Georgia’s mind from one cold fact: her family has to wake up every morning and know the perpetrator of that crime, a particularly odious witch named Isolda, is still on the loose.
